I wonder why Luke 9:55-56 is not in the New World Translation?

And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. And they went to another village.

Why was that left out?

  1. The reason, or excuse, depending on your point of view, was left out because in the opinion of the WTBTS, this wasn't in the original texts that were written by those who authored them at the time of their writing. That is the reason why you see dashes next to many of the scripture numbers in many areas of their New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures version of the Holy Bible. The WTBTS always claims that the reason why many verses of scripture were left out replaced by dashes were not written in their places as they keep repeatedly claiming that they were not in the original texts of the scriptures.

That may sound confusing, but that is the reason/excuse that they give. The problem is that they won't let anyone else see those "original texts" to see if what the WTBTS is doing is right or wrong. Myself, I highly doubt that the WTBTS has any of the "original texts" that they claim that their NWTHS is based on or even that they really checked them out at all.

I know because that is the reason that they always gave when they were asked about verses being left out and replaced by dashes. Again, it may sound confusing, but that is the reason/excuse that they give.

  2. That is easy enough to check. I have several Bibles that will note when texts are different. I will update when I find out.
